Mousehole in Cornwall is a perfect destination for your self catering cottage holiday. A hundred years ago Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel) was a bustling Cornish town harbour three miles west around Mounts Bay from Penzance, crowded with fishing boats and local trade where the fishermen brought in loads of locally caught fish. Since that time the town has become famed for the story The Mousehole Cat by Antonia Barber, a story in which the townspeople eat baked hake, cooked kedgeree, grilled fairmaids, fried launces, soused scad, and half a hundred star-gazy pies on Tom Bawcock's Eve.
Mousehole is a very beautiful fishing village set on a beautiful coastline that was sacked by a Spanish raiding party in 1595. The entire rural village except for a single house was burned down and this shaped the way that the town developed to the present day.
Beautiful Mousehole Cottages including this one overlooking the harbour with sensational views from every room, terrace, gardens and parking.
The holiday cottages in Mousehole are very warm, comfortable and quaint. The village contains granite and slate cottages with narrow winding streets and cobbled alleys.
If you go to Cornwall for your cottage holiday in the winter make sure you don't miss out on the world famous Christmas lights of Mousehole that create a truly magical experience.
Outside Mousehole harbour is St Clement's Isle, a rocky islet that is said to have once been home to an ancient hermit. A small beach in a sheltered bit of the harbour is popular with families with small children, and there are local coves Penberth, Lamorna and Porthcurno.
When you book your cottage holiday online ensure it has the facilities you need, such as single or double bedrooms, living room with a fireplace, conservatory, toilet, kitchen, dining room, shower and bathroom. A picturesque garden is really nice, too, including a barbeque. Central heating, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, tumble drier, freezer, microwave oven, pets, a nearby pub, TV and offroad parking are also very important considerations.
